Dear Shane,
Thank you for posting that so relevant poem by Sri Chinmoy, which I
had not seen before. Call it synchronicity or oneness-coincidence, but
I'm glad you posted on this motif. You wrote:
"I always find it remarkable that when a spiritual truth comes home to
you for the first time, echoes of it seem to jump out of everywhere."
This reminded me of a quote from Sri Chinmoy, which I searched and
searched for in vain. I can only roughly paraphrase it: The secrets of
the East are not secrets, they are an open class. [very unofficial]
At those special moments when we feel His presence, God Himself is the
most obvious reality. There is a story about a Christian saint who
went running through her convent crying "I see God, I see God!"
Perhaps it was St. Teresa of Avila, or St. Therese of Lisieux. I am
failing dreadfully at finding anything I'm looking for today. I
learned only that St. Teresa of Avila is the patron saint of Headache
Sufferers.
Shane, it was so nice *almost* meeting you at Aspiration-Ground! I
want to thank you for your kindness in offering to bring me soup. From
the story I have heard, it seems as though I disappeared just around
the time that plan had crystallized. What happened to the soup, I do
not know. It was a chilly evening, so I hope you got its benefit!
Fondly,
Michael
P.S. Failing to find the quotes I really wanted, I did remember this
from about three years ago:
"You know, you put in some spiritual work, but maybe you don't feel
the result at the time. Then, at some wholly other time when you are
least expecting it, something clicks in the lock, a door opens, and
the very birds seem to be announcing the presence of God in no
unmistakable terms. More than that, in each note of their song they
seem to be saying that they always were God, will always be God, and
that there was never anything other than God. The little darlings!"
